I try very hard to not go into politics here on the blog. I have very strong opinions politically, but that is not what the blog is about.
What I want to talk about today is social media and politics. I won’t go into my political views, but I do want to talk about how I feel social media drives a wedge between the political views.
I truly believe that prior to social media being such a huge way to communicate with each other, we were able to be more civil about our feelings and beliefs. I think that is because you had to actually talk face to face or on the phone with people regarding your thoughts. You couldn’t just hide behind a computer screen and type up nasty stuff.
Both sides do it. Fingers are pointed, name calling is rampant, and people get seriously out of sorts. There is a lot of emotion poured into it. People tend to talk big when they are behind the safety of their computer.
I miss the days of having a good ole fashioned political debate with people.
I truly believe that our nation would not be so divided had social media not sprung up and reared its ugly head as it has.
Now please don’t get me wrong. I am not totally against social media. I have met some really amazing people via social media. I just think that it gives people something to yell out from but yet hide behind.
